At a networking function last week someone was lamenting about losing their job and that the prospects of re-employment in her field were slim. Since promoting and supporting the financial advisor community is part of my business model, I asked the woman whether she ever thought about a career as a financial professional. Her response emphatically along the lines of “I don’t want to go into sales.” The conversation then went in another direction, but it got me thinking as to how and why the life insurance industry has been unable to move the public perception that life insurance agents are fundamentally sales agents and not financial advisors.
